Te Whau Pathway Hīkoi
Walk alongside the Whau River and explore the stories of this historic waterway.
Overview
This hīkoi (guided walk) follows part of the Te Whau Pathway, a walking route that traces the Whau River and connects communities across West Auckland. The river has long held importance for travel, settlement, and connection between harbours.
Participants walk together along the awa (river) while listening to pūrākau (stories of origin) and kōrero tuku iho (stories of the past, oral traditions) that explore the cultural and environmental significance of the Whau. The experience highlights the relationship between people, whenua (land), and waterways, strengthening understanding of the histories and knowledge connected to this landscape.
